Nebraska Medical Center cardiologist Dr. Haysam Akkad clarifies how a stent is place inside a blocked artery and what a patient is likely to feel after the procedure is finished. X-Rays have been in use as a medical imaging technique since approximately 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen concluded that he was able to make photos of body structures like tissues and bones by passing electromagnetic waves through the body. He labeled the phenomenon “X” because he did not initially know the composition of the “rays”. X-Rays have been the building block upon which medical imaging technology and medical imaging equipment have been constructed. Although the X-Ray has been a fundamental tool for medical imaging, this approach has always had the down side that the photos made are indistinct, which makes it so it requires very careful analysis and interpretation. Scientists have long searched for a way to enhance the quality of radiographic images.
